The electrification of the drive train and/or transmission is one of the defining topics in the automotive industry. This year, nearly 50 per cent of the 650 participants at the 8th International CTI Symposium “Innovative Automotive Transmissions” (1 and 2 December 2009, Berlin) indicated in a TED survey that they are intensively involved with this topic. For a further 15.4 per cent of the transmission and drive experts surveyed, electrification is a central or primary topic. Conventional multiple gear transmissions are still regarded by 19.3 per cent of those surveyed as a transmission technology with an electrified future. This presentation gives a synthesis by ATC of the CTI Automotive Transmission Symposium 2009, with a selection of trends and highlights.
